DMC Hospitals Ranked Nationally for Care

Detroit – The Detroit Medical Center has once again been recognized nationally by U.S. News & World Report for high quality patient care.

DMC Harper University Hospital was ranked nationally in the top 50 in Gastroenterology & GI Surgery and Geriatrics in U.S. News & World Report’s 2021-2022 Best Hospitals ranking.

The hospital was also ranked as High Performing nationally in Neurology & Neurosurgery, and Pulmonology & Lung Surgery in the Adult Specialties category.

In the Common Adult Procedure and Condition rankings, DMC Harper University Hospital was rated as High Performing in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Heart Attack, Heart Failure, Kidney Failure and Pneumonia.

In addition to DMC Harper University Hospital, three other DMC hospitals were recognized for exceptional care by the magazine in the Common Adult Procedure and Condition category.

The national recognition of DMC’s adult hospitals follows the recent U.S. News & World Report Best Children’s Hospitals rankings, which ranked DMC Children’s Hospital of Michigan as one of the top in the nation for pediatric care. DMC Children’s was nationally ranked in six pediatric specialties; Cardiology & Heart Surgery, Gastroenterology & GI Surgery, Nephrology, Neurology & Neurosurgery, Orthopedics and Urology.

For the 2021-22 rankings and ratings, U.S. News evaluated more than 4,750 medical centers nationwide in 15 specialties and 17 procedures and conditions. In the 15 specialty areas, 175 hospitals were ranked in at least one specialty. In rankings by state and metro area, U.S. News recognized hospitals as high performing across multiple areas of care. According to U.S. News, methodologies in most areas of care are based largely on objective measures such as risk-adjusted survival and discharge-to-home rates, volume, and quality of nursing, among other care-related indicators.
