Two Detroit Medical Center Hospitals Score Top Ratings from Leapfrog
Apr 24, 2018
DMC Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital and DMC Harper-Hutzel Hospital both received an “A” rating in The Leapfrog Group’s Spring 2018 Safety Score, demonstrating the hospitals’ continued commitment to delivering safe, high-quality patient care. Huron-Valley and Harper-Hutzel are core hospitals in the Detroit Medical Center health system.
The Leapfrog Group Hospital Safety Score is a rating system designed to give consumers information they can use to make healthcare decisions for themselves or a loved one. The Leapfrog Group assigns A, B, C, D and F grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals based on their ability to prevent errors, injuries, accidents and infections.
Huron-Valley and Harper-Hutzel Hospital were two of only 23 hospitals in Michigan to earn Leapfrog’s top A score. Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital is 1 of 49 hospitals in the U.S. to receive straight A's since the inception of the Safety Grades (13 periods), and only 1 of 2 in Michigan to get straight A's every year.
“This rating recognizes Huron-Valley’s long legacy of continuous commitment to placing safety at the forefront of our patient's care,” said Karima Bentounsi, Chief Executive Officer, Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital. “I want to personally thank each Huron-Valley team member for their perseverance, enthusiasm and sincere caring. Our hospital has many great services and benefits to offer our community, and I can’t wait to celebrate the team’s success in delivering remarkable care.”
Every day, DMC hospital teams focus on driving improvements in care delivery and patient satisfaction. DMC clinical leaders regularly review the hospital's patient care processes and compares our data to nationally recognized benchmarks and best practices. Nothing is more important to the DMC than offering our patients trusted care in a safe environment.
“Through their innate desire to deliver great patient care, our hospital team brought to fruition a score they knew they could achieve,” said Scott Steiner, FACHE, Chief Executive Officer of DMC Harper University and DMC Hutzel Women's hospitals. “The entire leadership team thanks everyone who committed themselves to achieving these A ratings.”
While scoring methods differ by organization and none provide a complete picture of the care provided to patients, DMC uses data such as Leapfrog ratings and other publicly available information to care for those the healthcare system serves.
“These A ratings are a testament to our caregiver's dedication to delivering excellent patient care,” said Dr. Anthony Tedeschi, CEO of Detroit Medical Center. “Their commitment to our organizational transformation and delivering care in alignment with industry best standards is validated by the Leapfrog scores and is to be commended.”
This year’s Leapfrog data is yet another validation of the overall efforts of the DMC to ensure the safe delivery of care - and as evidenced-base proof - that our practices are safe.
