Risk factors
You are more likely to have vascular disease as you get older, but it can happen to anyone, at any age.
Some risk factors include:
- Family history of vascular or heart diseases
- Pregnancy
- Illness or injury
- Long periods of sitting or standing still
- Any condition that affects the heart and blood vessels, such as diabetes or high cholesterol
- Smoking
- Obesity
You may be able to reduce your risk of vascular disease and prevent further problems after diagnosis by losing weight, eating healthy, getting exercise, maintaining a healthy weight and not smoking.
